Mailomatic is an
online email manager for Unix-based web servers. That is, you manage
your website's list/s online from a web browser. This includes writing/editing
emails; adding and removing mail receipients and sending out 'posts'. The
return address and default "subject: <heading>" line can be user set
in the configuration header of the script.
Mailomatic also
allows your visitors to subscribe and unsubscribe from the list/s automatically.
To stop 'junk' email addresses, first the address is checked, in code,
for correct syntax (ie: someone@somewhere.xxx and/or .xx) then a confirmation
mail is sent to the address. This email contains a perl string 'url'
that will automatically enter the address into your mailing list if the
receipient activates it.
Mailomatic,
by default, allows two lists - a html list
and a text list. That is, some visitors might have text only email clients
or, probably more to the likely, people have switched off the html
extentions on their email clients (don't you love activeX ??). Whatever,
you give your visitors a choice - which seems to us a good thing on an
interactive web site. You can set the default to either html or text in
the script 'configuration header' (you will also have to change the label
on the radio button in the user interface) or you can set it to one type
only (just leave off the radio button).
To try it yourself, we have setup a demo version of the script - you
will not be entered into the list unless you confirm via email and you
will be able to delete entries at any time through our Admin Demo.
